Articles on Science Topics, for Non-Scientists

Try: Points of View Reference Center

TIPS for Points of View Reference Center

  • Look at the article's citation on the results list.  It usually tells you how long the article is.  If it shows a fraction (1/5 p.) then it is less than one page, which is probably too short.
  • You can limit your search to articles that are 5 pages or less (for example).  Just use the Advanced Search.  Scroll down to the "Number of Pages" box.  Pick pages "less than" and put in the number.
  • You can pick how difficult the article is.  Again, use the Advanced Search.  Choose a "lexile" number.  The higher the number, the more difficult.  Start by choosing something in the middle, like 950-1075.
  • Periodicals are also known as magazines!  Magazines are great for finding articles that discuss science for non-scientists. Again, you can tell the computer to just search for "periodicals" by selecting the "Document Type" on the Advanced Search screen.
