Help with Getting Started

If you are stuck, it can help to read some background info on anthropology.  The first two links will help you understand the discipline as well as major turning points and famous theorists.

If you are trying to identify a population to study, the two journals listed below are good places to browse for articles that you find interesting. 

Find Articles

World Geography & Culture and World Religions are library databases that can help with background info on a certain population.  Their articles are academic, but more general.

When you are ready to find more specific or detailed information, do a search in one of the databases below.  Academic Search Premier and PQ Central offer tools to narrow your search - click to choose "Full Text" and also limit your publication dates.  Journals, News & Magazines are good sources to look for. 

Google

A good way to find reliable information on Google, is to limit your results to websites that end  in - .org, .edu and .gov.  Use the below search string to limit your search to certain url extensions.  You can also use the pre-formatted Google search below - just delete TOPIC and type in the population you are studying.   

site:.org [your topic}

Example search:  site:.org muslim women and france

Example search:  site:.edu teen parents and texas

Google Web Search
