Why Templates?

Templates are essential to make sure you appropriately give credit to the original creator of the content you are using.  Also, it ensures that anyone wishing to remix your remix knows what rights they are extended.

Creative Commons

Creative Commons has established icons that are universally utilized to visually state what a person is allowed to do with a resource.  All documents should have a stated license and appropriate icon.

  1. This page walks you through questions about what kind of copyright you would like for your resource: https://creativecommons.org/choose/
  2. Once the icon displays for your copyright you will copy the icon and put it on your document OR if you are placing copyright on a web resource you will copy the code and insert it as appropriate.
    1. Right click to copy and paste the icons.
  3. A full list of icons and descriptions is located here: https://creativecommons.org/about/downloads/
  4. If you are teaching an OER course it is suggested that you download the icon set to your computer to have them easily accessible.  The icon set is available here: https://creativecommons.org/about/downloads/  Scroll down to "All Icons Zip" [3/4 of the way down the page]
