Fantasy is speculative fiction based on magic or myth. Strange creatures and other-worldy beasts inhabit these places, and characters are taken on journeys that ultimately bring out their strength of character.
Fantasy is different than science fiction. Science fiction is driven by the technology of possible past, future, or distant worlds. While some of these worlds and their inhabitants might be highly unlikely, it is understood that they are not magical. In fantasy literature, the world is not bound by conventional rules, and magic and mysticism make anything possible. If you love to be able to escape into another world when you read a book, fantasy is for you.
