Nominations and Elections Committee: September

A home base for the BCC Nominations & Elections Committee

College Wide Sabbatical Leave Election

College Wide Sabbatical Leave Committee – We no longer elect members for the Promotion Committee.  This is confusing to much of the faculty but it is clearly spelled out in Appendix A.

There are two distinct elections pertaining to the CWSLC.  The first are the Members at Large elected at the Faculty Meeting at the beginning of the year. The second are the departmental elections held at the first department meetings.  The N&E committee only conducts these elections if someone in the department asks for it.

Some departments choose not to elect a representative to the committee.  We cannot do anything about this.  The list of both Members at Large and members from the departments are collected by the N&E committee and then sent to Dr. Mullaney.  I did not send them out to the full faculty and administration until he said it was alright which insures that there are no mistakes (I have made some in the past) and that he has a chance to talk to departments who have not put a name forward.  There are usually questions about when the committee will meet before people put their names forward to run, but that is not known until Dr. Mullaney starts organizing meetings at the end of October after the sabbatical applications are sent in.

Nominations & Elections Committee

Nominations & Elections Committee – This is pretty clear cut.  5 members are elected and a notice is sent out to the faculty.  I did not wait for all of the results of the CWSLC to send out this notice.

Departmental Committees

Departmental Committees – These are conducted intra-departmentally.  A sample list of them is in Appendix A.

College-Wide Committees

College-Wide Committees – The N&E committee has tried very hard not to get involved in these elections, however if we are asked we go we go.  In the departments the chairs should know which faculty are on which committee and whether or not their two year term is up. The easiest way for them (and you) to keep track of this is whether the department is on the odd year or even year list.  Everyone in that department is on that same two year schedule. Appendix A page 21 has the Group 1 (even years) and the Group 2 (odd years) lists.  This list is used for elections when appropriate and for Senators.
