Integrating the Library into Moodle Courses: Creating Links

This guide for faculty gives examples of how to integrate library resources into Moodle.

Creating links to items in the Library Catalog

Linking to an item in the Library's catalog is easy and a great way to incorporate the Library into your Moodle course. The Library has books, DVDs, CDs, and online content like E-books and E-videos. To link to items in the Library Catalog in your Moodle course, you must first create a "persistent URL" or "PURL". Follow these steps to create a PURL to place in your Moodle course.

1. Locate the item you want to link to using the Library's Catalog on our homepage.

2.While viewing the item, click on "Bookmark link for this record". See screenshot below:

 3. A shorter URL will appear in the address bar at the top of your browser. This is your PURL. Highlight this link. Right click with the mouse and select Copy. Paste it into your Moodle Course as you would any other website or URL.

4. Now your students will be able to click the link and see information about the book.
