Integrating the Library into Moodle Courses: Static Links to Database Articles

This guide for faculty gives examples of how to integrate library resources into Moodle.

Static linking to the Library Databases

If you find an article in the Library databases and want to embed it into your Moodle course static links can help you. Creating a static link ensures that your students will be able to access the same content without the hassle of a broken link. They are also called Permalinks, PURLs, document URLs or stable links.

Static links are different from the links seen in the address bar. Static link are found in different places in the databases. This page will help you locate static links in three of the Library's databases.

Static Links in Academic Search Premier

To find the static links in Academic Search Premier, first execute a search in the database, then find an article from the list of results and click on the article's title. On the right side of the screen locate the "Permalink" option from the menu. A static link to the article will appear at the top of the page. Copy this link and embed it into your Moodle course like any other web link. See screenshot below:

Static Links in ProQuest

Scroll down to the bottom of the page under "Indexing (details)." Find "Document URL" in the list and copy the link next to it. This is the static link to the article.
